The Definition of Alternative Energy

What do you think of when you hear the world “alternative energy? Do you think of wind power or energy efficient light bulbs or do you think of something completely different? The fact is the term alternative energy is just something that means any source of reusable energy that replaces fuel sources without the undesired consequences of replaced fuels. Alternative itself means in a way undesirable. So alternative fuel is the fuel we would rather not use as our first choice. Alternative energy is produced without hurting the environment. Fossil fuels have an undesired consequence because of their high carbon dioxide emissions.

Alternative energy has been happening for as long as man has been around so it’s no surprise that it keeps evolving. At one time wood was used to burn everything but they realized they would go through there supply very quickly if they weren’t careful when someone picked up the idea of using coal as a way to substitute the wood. Then of course for years they used to lubricate fuel for lamps by using whale oil but then it was realized that the whales were dying off and what whale oil they did have left was getting so high in price they knew a change was coming so they decided to start using petroleum.

Of course more changes were apparent. Fossil fuels were being used like coal and oil and Alexander Graham Bell made the smart choice to use ethanol that was devired from corn and other food. The problem he ran into was the same everyone ran into. It wasn’t easy to replicate the otherdox energy sources. Brazil has been using the ethanol fuel program. They use ethanol and sugar cane and the can waste is used to process head and power. Most of the filling stations in the country of Brazil have an ethanol pump or two. The is no way to be sure that we will use the alternative energy we have now but it’s something that most businesses and homes are considering.

Municipal Bonds Are in Endless Supply; Fossil Fuels are Not

There is a clear debate about whether or not the human way of life is polluting the earth. There are studies on both sides to enforce their point and there are studies on both sides to dispute the opposing argument. While it’s difficult to be on one side or the other, there is one thing that is certain: most American’s are confused by the whole thing. With both sides throwing out words and terms it can be rather confusing. One of the words you hear a lot in the debate is fossil fuels. But perhaps you should learn what fossil fuels really are and how they play a part in clean energy. Fossil fuels are formed naturally through the process of decomposition. When you hear words like coal, petroleum and natural gas, those themselves are fossil fuels. These things make up the majority of the world’s natural energy.

So why are fossil fuels so important in the debate for energy? Fossil fuels are the main source of energy in the country as most power plants run off of gas, coal and petroleum, but the problem is these fossil fuels are non-renewable sources of energy. This means that it takes millions of years to reproduce coal and gas. Therefore, once they are gone, they are gone. They are not like municipal bonds that are in a seemingly endless supply. These fossil fuels are in a dwindling supply and the government is offering incentives to companies and cities who decide to go with alternative sources of energy.

The burning of these fossil fuels produces more carbon dioxide than the earth can handle which means that this excess carbon dioxide has been thought to cause global warming. Now you know that fossil fuels are at the very center of the alternative energy debate.

Solar Heating

We know how powerful the sun is and how much the world is beginning to put a premium on its ability to be used as the main source of renewable energy around the world but perhaps you aren’t aware of all it can do. You know by now that it’s most frequent responsibility is to be good to the crops in the field and that farmers use solar panels as well as other techniques in order to keep the sun hitting the crops as much as it possibly can. But did you know that the sun is always used for a variety of other ways. One is to heat water.

Solar hot water systems are used to in low geographic latitudes and there are generally 3 types of solar water heaters. There is the evacuated tube collectors and then there are the glazed flat plate collectors and those are used for the domestic hot water and the of course there is the unglazed plastic collectors but you won’t find those in your house. Those are usually used in the backyard to heat your swimming pool.

In many homes they are using solar energy in their heating, cooling, and ventilation systems. They can be used to offset a portion of the energy used by these systems. Thermal mass is any material that is used to store heat and that heat from the sun is the case in solar energy. Thermal mass includes stone, cement and water. These thermal mass principles are used in thermal mass have been used in arid climates and warm temperature places to keep building cool by absorbing all the solar energy and radiating stored heat at night. They can be used in cold temperature areas to maintain warmth as well. Thermal mass depends on several factors like climate, daylighting and shading conditions. The fact of the matter is that conditions used for cooling and heating are helped by the use of solar energy and have been for years. And with the way technology is advancing, solar energy is going to get stronger by the year.

And so does everybody else. Coal, natural gas, gasoline, and diesel fuel all come the same place; organic lifeforms that died hundreds of millions of years ago, hence the name “fossil fuels.” Diesel and gasoline come from creatures that lived back then, while fuels like methane gas and coal are results of plant life that has decomposed.

In the United States it was found that the use of fossil fuels is responsible for ninety percent of greenhouse gas emissions. Greenhouse gases are the ones that burn holes in the ozone and damage the environment. Keeping in mind that it is widely accepted that a change in global weather killed the dinosaurs, there’s a sense of righteous irony that the giant lizards are striking back. Nevertheless, various measures are being taken to move away from the use of fossil fuels, and explore other fuel sources that will be less volatile towards the natural world. Research is being conducted to find a practical substitute. Even the Director of the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) presented a case focusing on how national security could be improved by moving away from fossil fuels.

Fossil fuels are what becomes of just the organic material of an organism. Museums of dinosaur bones show how the skeletons are left behind for some time before they too decompose. Dinosaur bones continue to catch and hold the awe of humans, and the search for them was redoubled during the dinosaur renaissance in the 1970s. In 2002, a group of home-schoolers took a working field trip to a site where their teachers had purchased the fossil rights from the property managers. They found the most preserved skeleton of an Allosaurus ever found on the earth.

Luckily for mankind, and despite worries to the contrary, there are plenty of fossil fuels to go around. The world is not going to run out of them anytime soon.
